Hello, I have a question. We are planning to build a house, specifically a prefab house from Massa Haus. We have heard that the electrical installation package offered by Massa Haus (upgrade package) does not include the highest quality components. So, we thought about finding an electrician who could sell us the materials directly, which is not that easy.

During our search, we came across a company in Karlsruhe (we are building in Pforzheim) that offers electrical material packages along with consulting for the electrical installation. It is important to us that we do not receive any “no-name” components that we would have to replace later.

This sounds to us like the same principle as an upgrade package: we get the materials, instructions for installation, and possibly assistance during the process.

What would you choose? The upgrade package from the house manufacturer or branded quality from a specialist company at similar prices? We asked for quotes from both, and the prices are comparable.

Maybe someone here has experience with this.

Thank you in advance for your advice.

For our planned house, the package costs about 3564€ without any services from the company.

That would save around €3000 if I estimate like this.

So, every mistake you make that the company has to fix probably costs extra, right? Travel fees every time, and so on?
Doing the wiring yourself?
We drilled the boxes and chased the channels ourselves. On one floor, we also laid the cables ourselves, monitored by a friend who is an electrician, whom we had to ask for help quite often. Besides, the whole process takes a lot of time, so in the end, we had it done professionally anyway (then it went quickly).
The electrician handles all the wiring and connections in the breaker panel.

So, DIY work—yes, possible. Without experience—difficult. The question is, does every piece of support, every site visit, etc. cost extra? And do you have the time for that? The effort is often underestimated. There is a difference between four experienced workers working solid 8-hour days and one or two (laypeople) working on weekends.

Correct, fixing mistakes costs based on effort; travel time is included in work hours and not charged separately. We actually planned to make the channels and drill the boxes ourselves, as well as lay the cables. We would leave the rest to the company. Hoping it won’t take months to do—I mean, the house is “only” 140 m² (1506 sq ft) without a basement.
