ᐅ Distance Between Electrical Outlets and the Wall?

Hello,

I have a question about power outlets and the best position to install them.

They are usually installed at a height of 30cm (12 inches) above the finished floor, but what distance should be kept from the wall or from a corner? Should it be 15cm (6 inches) centered, like with door frames, or should it be more?

Thank you very much

It’s one thing to occasionally install an electrical box in an unusual location because it’s needed there at the moment. But it’s quite another to place most of the boxes outside the designated installation zones.
If in doubt, the homeowner might later claim they were unaware, and the electrician will have to redo the work at their own expense because it is not compliant with the standards.

Basically, this is no different from asking the roofer to cover the roof with bamboo just because you liked it during a vacation. That might be fine for a tiki bar in the garden, but for the entire house, from a legal perspective, it’s a matter of liability.
There is usually more at stake than just aesthetics and comfort. Consider a resident unknowingly driving a nail in the wrong spot, which later causes the house to burn down. What do you think the insurance company would say then?

The installation zone runs like a strip through the room, so you cannot set incorrect distances. However, a center-to-center spacing of 15 cm (6 inches) should be maintained, otherwise it will look awkward.

What Lumpi says is what I would say too, because it just looks bad if you stick them only 5cm (2 inches) from the wall.

Well, actually, you can outside of these bands. This was about the distance to a room corner, where the band runs vertically, 20cm (8 inches) wide, and 10cm (4 inches) away from the corner. An electrical box placed 15cm (6 inches) from the corner would therefore be within the zone and allowed, but a box 5cm (2 inches) or 35cm (14 inches) away would not.

Edit: Unless this box is located within the horizontal bands running 15cm (6 inches) from the floor or ceiling. Within these two 20cm (8 inches) wide bands, the box could theoretically be installed directly in the corner :-D
