Hello everyone,

we have a roughly 1000 sqm (approximately 10,764 sq ft) flat plot of land, and I’ve been thinking about creating a play hill.

During the current construction phase, we piled up the excavation soil from the house in a large mound right in the middle of the lot. It still needs to be spread out.

My idea now is to take some of that soil and shape a small hill in a corner or along the edge of the property for the children to play on. A small tree and grass on top would help prevent the soil from washing away.

Later, it could be used as a base for a waterfall – or flattened again.

What do you think? Has anyone had experience with this? About how big should it be?

How do you envision a waterfall for later on?
Asking for a friend...

Well, quite simply:
Dig a hole at the bottom, line it with pond liner, shape it into a hill, and then use a submersible pump to move water from the pond back up.

From there, you could create a gently flowing stream or waterfall by removing some material.

Finally, dress it up nicely with plants and arrange stones around it.

is usually just a temporary thing

there were so many things we wanted to do, but then football and the PlayStation came along

It’s also not very practical when it comes to mowing and similar tasks. Personally, I wouldn’t do it.

…you don’t have any children either 😉

If the extra effort of building on a hill doesn’t bother you, why not? Even if it’s just for a few years. During that time, the children will be occupied, and you’ll have some peace and quiet... you will need that time for gardening and other activities.

Before you start filling in, place old concrete pipes underneath. Like a cave system. 😉
