Elias_dee16 Apr 2022 09:21Hello friends,
Our general contractor will install a Weishaupt air-to-water heat pump in our single-family home (exact model name see above).
Now, I read on Weishaupt’s website that the "high standard equipment" already includes, among other things, the "complete cooling package." The brochure describes it similarly as a "complete cooling system."
However, I can’t find any further details about this. I assume this refers to the underfloor cooling system, but does anyone have other information? And how exactly does it work—if I set the thermostat of the underfloor heating to 18°C (64°F) in summer, will it then cool the room, or how does it function?
Thank you in advance!
Best regards

Deliverer16 Apr 2022 10:41The heating technician will explain how to adjust it during handover.
Yes, it will be a radiant floor cooling system. It can lower the room temperature by a few degrees, but it does not replace air conditioning, as only air conditioning removes humidity, which is the more important aspect of cooling in our summers.

How to set it up will be explained to you by the heating engineer during the handover.
But yes, it will be a floor cooling system. It is capable of lowering the room temperature by a few degrees. However, it does not replace air conditioning, since only that can dehumidify the air, which is the far more important part of cooling during our summers. Thank you! My question was whether you need to purchase or order anything extra, or if it is automatically included.
The regulation of humidity is then handled by the central ventilation system... I was advised to use an enthalpy heat exchanger here. The combination should make it more comfortable in summer.

Deliverer16 Apr 2022 11:04I can’t tell you what is included, sorry.
And I doubt that your ventilation system can dehumidify. Thanks to the EWT, they can maintain indoor humidity a bit better. In winter. Dehumidifying is only possible with a cold surface, and that only exists with heat pumps.
So my advice: install an air conditioning system.

So my advice: install an air conditioner. Ah, okay. Good to know that the EWT only helps in winter. Thanks!

I just read on the Weishaupt website that the "high standard equipment" already includes, among other things, the "complete cooling operation equipment." The brochure describes it similarly as "complete cooling package." We installed exactly the same air-to-water heat pump but are still in the underfloor heating screed phase, so I don’t have much practical experience to share yet. We asked our plumbing company whether it can also provide cooling. The answer was that it is generally possible with the unit, but additional components and work are required, which they estimated to cost around 1,500 - 2,000 euros. I can’t say exactly what these were, as we decided not to pursue it for now.
As far as I know, you definitely need a dew point control system to shut down the system if condensation occurs.
We should also run a control cable from the technical room to the heating manifold so that we can retrofit cooling later on.
If you have more information on this, please let me know. I’d be interested as well.
