Hello everyone,

What were things during the construction phase that you would have been better off avoiding in hindsight?
For example, too much supervision, no time off, too many changes, no expert consultation, etc.

Looking forward to your experiences!

Thank you

In our company, we make no distinction between the manager and the driver. This approach has proven effective. A coffee here, a truck at lunchtime, a friendly chat, and complaints decrease significantly.
Why handle it differently on the construction site? The journeyman on site does the work, and over a coffee, suggestions come up on how to do things better.

We had an independent court-approved expert involved. He was good and generally well respected. He didn’t charge for every little thing either.
This was a recommendation from our general contractor.
Experienced craftsmen themselves say you can tell on the construction sites whether an expert is present or not.

The expert advised at the beginning: check every day. If you feel uneasy or something seems off in your stomach area, call immediately.

I was usually on site twice a day. Once in the evening quietly alone, and the next day to clarify questions, etc. Then there would be a coffee or something to eat. Not every day, and we were asked not to bring cake or trucks.

What are trucks and why no cake?

Lkw with ABS

... Leberkäs roll with a bit of mustard!

LeberKäsWeck Weck = bread roll

Because there is too much cake and LKWs. Some construction sites offer breakfast, lunch, and afternoon cake. They didn’t want something every day. So occasionally there was the daily special from the butcher or a generously topped baguette from the bakery. I asked, “Today we have half a chicken, do you want some?” A thermos of coffee was gladly accepted. Drinks didn’t go much—winter construction site. A few bottles of beer.

Recently, I rode along with a craftsman who has been in Germany for just a few years. He is always hardworking and comes across as very down-to-earth.

He told me: we have clients who have a lot of money and spend well, but show no respect at all – that makes working for them no fun at all.
With you, it is exactly the opposite.

Kind words.

I always say:
“Respect doesn’t need a language.”

People who cannot show that are, in my opinion, beyond hope, sorry.
