Hello everyone,
We are planning to build a single-family house of about 140 sqm (1507 sq ft) without a basement on a plot south of Ingolstadt. We are currently looking for suitable construction companies that build solid structures. Unfortunately, we have no experience in this area and rely on your help to separate the wheat from the chaff.
So far, we have the following companies on our short list that we might contact:
- Isar Haus from Munich
- Town & Country (partner is Feiner Hausbau GmbH)
- Wand Massivhaus
- MVS Ziegelbau
- Heinz von Heiden
- Lechner Massivhaus (the company builds with klimaPOR, not sure what to think of that)
Could you maybe tell me if these companies are recommended and whether they tend to build in a higher price range or rather offer standard options?
Do you have any tips on other companies worth recommending in the region? Thanks in advance!

Originally, we wanted to go with a prefabricated construction method – H v H was also considered since they have a house in our town. However, they were quickly ruled out after checking online.
Our disappointment with two suppliers (not H v H) came fairly quickly after meetings with the so-called “vacuum cleaner salespeople” and further research.
Poor advice, non-transparent pricing, sometimes deliberate hiding of costs, and ultimately extremely bold prices with no real fixed prices.
Oh, and fake special offers for preliminary contracts were also noticeable among our prefabricated house builders.
This certainly doesn’t apply to all, but I believe it is a general problem among many large companies – including those using solid construction.
We now have two local suppliers to choose from, and based on gut feeling between very good and good, we are ready to decide.
Both have been better in every respect so far. The offers are still being worked out, but it is clearly foreseeable that we will receive more affordable, customized, and especially more personal service.
In the end, it’s a bit of a gamble, and we are still at the beginning... but we are now feeling quite optimistic.

We do not want to wait that long for the house to be finished. Would you consider H v H to be more of a budget option or rather on the higher-priced side?
Rather cheap, but even then you get what you order….
However, you will have to wait a long time everywhere; the question is whether everyone will be honest with you about that right away….
Often you hear, “Yes, yes, we’ll start this year…” and then nothing happens….
We also had to wait almost a year from the first design until construction began.

Also, regarding construction time, working with local providers can sometimes be faster than with, for example, large companies. Construction times are sometimes defined from the top of the structural shell (top of slab), while the basement and foundation slab are done by third parties, etc.
Our impression is that price and quality do not necessarily have a clear correlation. The large companies, in our view, tend to focus more on maximizing profits and charge market prices that do not correspond to the actual value.

Kapitänin21 Apr 2019 11:49Hello Snowy! We are in a similar situation, also between Ingolstadt and Munich. However, we are still at the very beginning of our search.
We would like a mix between a prefabricated house and a solid masonry house. At the moment, we are taking a closer look at the "Johanni brick house." We have seen a model home in Poing.
I would be happy if we could exchange some ideas.
Best regards
