Hello, one of the smart books we read as home builders strongly recommends sealing the transitions/joints between the exterior plaster and the windows and doors with flexible sealants. I have paid attention to this several times in new builds but haven’t seen it done on a single house. I want to prepare for discussions with our construction company and, of course, back myself up with arguments. Is this actually standard practice nowadays (with flexible sealants), or is this recommendation from the "expert" book somewhat exaggerated? Regards, Titus

The transition between plaster and window represents a construction joint that will eventually crack without appropriate measures. Therefore, so-called plaster stop beads are usually used for this purpose. I would definitely insist on this.
