Hello,

we are currently considering installing a cistern, but according to quotes from the general contractors, it would be really expensive...

A colleague suggested the following:

Simply inform the excavation contractor to install concrete rings. There are also various online guides available later on for the connections, which could be done as self-installation.

Has anyone had experience with this?

These plastic cisterns are just extremely expensive...

Because it is airtight and does not need constant repairs...
He did write that after all.
There is also a warranty.

It may just be his experience. I heard from a colleague who also uses such concrete rings and hasn’t had any issues with them for 20 years.

Maybe he hasn’t noticed yet how much water is leaking...
The effort required for sealing, documentation of pipes, and so on is quite high. On top of that, the time involved. It can still work, though.
I would rather rely on something prefabricated.

I completely agree ... otherwise, we'll soon have the thread "Help, my cistern is leaking water" ... oh wait, that one already exists ...

Hello Exto

For the precast concrete channel rings, you need to pour a base, seal the joints, etc. Also, they tend to have a rather small diameter. Alternatively, you can use the 200mm (8 inches) rings. However, those cost around 500 euros per meter.
A 10m² (108 sq ft) concrete cistern costs about 2,500 euros. And then you won’t have any issues.
If you can find someone to dig the hole for you at a reasonable price, that’s already half the battle.
