Last weekend, we finally moved into our construction site.
Now we’re starting to think about furnishing. We are having a large 2.2m x 1.2m (7 ft 3 in x 3 ft 11 in) table custom-made. Of course, we still need suitable chairs for it. Since we have a vinyl floor, our flooring installer suggested we should attach felt pads or something similar underneath.
For that, you’d normally want regular chairs with four legs. However, we actually prefer cantilever chairs. These usually have a larger contact area with the floor than just four legs, right?
There is a huge selection available. How can a layperson tell which ones are any good? Do you have good experiences with certain manufacturers or models?
They should be black leather with legs in brushed stainless steel look, or something similar.

It is interesting that the authorship has been disputed from the very beginning and that the design is one of the most frequently copied. Pay attention to good materials and quality craftsmanship, and you will enjoy it for a long time. If I were to choose cantilever chairs, my choice would be Thonet.

Seems like things work differently for you, but I still have a lot to do around the house here. Just getting in the car and driving over is a full-day trip. There are more important things to do. That’s why you move in first and take care of the other necessary tasks later. And eventually, even if it takes a year, you’ll have the time and mindset for new furniture. Preferably in autumn, when the garden isn’t a priority.
Honestly, it worked out fine with just four chairs before, and it’ll be fine like that for a while longer. For the housewarming, beer benches (picnic tables) work best anyway.
Chairs are really expensive, so it’s best to sit on them and test them first.

Does the robot vacuum go over the swing-out part? Or do you just have enough space for it to find its way back?
We also had the Neato Botvac (an older model) and experienced problems. Same with the Roomba...
If you move the chairs off the table every day before leaving, of course it’s different. But it should work properly without that. No, it doesn’t go over the swing-out part. Since we have the XL chairs, they are wider at the frame. This way, the Dobby can get in and also back out (in reverse).

You’re right about that! Time issues usually arise for those who cannot distinguish between what is important and what is less important.
