Last weekend, we finally moved into our construction site.

Now we’re starting to think about furnishing. We are having a large 2.2m x 1.2m (7 ft 3 in x 3 ft 11 in) table custom-made. Of course, we still need suitable chairs for it. Since we have a vinyl floor, our flooring installer suggested we should attach felt pads or something similar underneath.

For that, you’d normally want regular chairs with four legs. However, we actually prefer cantilever chairs. These usually have a larger contact area with the floor than just four legs, right?

There is a huge selection available. How can a layperson tell which ones are any good? Do you have good experiences with certain manufacturers or models?

They should be black leather with legs in brushed stainless steel look, or something similar.

Cantilever chairs usually cause problems for robotic vacuum cleaners.
Good furniture stores often allow you to take different chairs home to try them out. They might also offer delivery.
Alternatively, online retailers provide return policies.
When it comes to chairs, I would definitely take your time.

Cantilever chairs usually have specific contact points where you can attach felt pads.
You’re also quite late ordering the chairs, right? They typically have lead times of 6 to 10 weeks unless you’re choosing basic hardware store models.

We have the Mondo Amati XL genuine black leather with a stainless steel frame and black powder-coated armrests. I can gladly provide you with some detailed photos later.

Our Neato Botvac robot vacuum handles the chairs without any issues.

Does the robot vacuum go under the swing arm? Or do you have enough space for it to find its way out again? We also had the Neato Botvac (an older model) and experienced problems. The same with Roomba... Of course, it’s different if you move the chairs off the table every day before leaving. But it should work without that.

That’s a useful tip about the robotic vacuum. We’re planning to get one later as well.

@rick2018 How did you resolve this? “Regular” chairs?

Regarding being late on this. Well, we have 4 chairs from our previous apartment.
There were definitely more important things to sort out first than matching chairs. But most of the ones I’ve seen so far had delivery times of less than a week.

Yes, we have regular chairs. Temporarily, we always pushed away the cantilever chairs. In the new house, the chairs will also be suitable for use with a robotic vacuum cleaner again.

In my opinion, that’s putting the cart before the horse.
