Yesterday, the walls and roof were filled with insulation (something like Isofloc). Our underfloor heating system is installed in the floor and has been running for a few days now, warming the screed.
(Just to give you an idea of how new everything is.)
This morning, there is a soft but distinct rushing sound coming from there.
Could that be water flowing in the pipes? ... I hope not 😱

So I understand that I can assume the noise is not permanent.
I'm glad to hear that...
I'm glad to hear that...
After further "investigations," I have the following suspicion:
The oil heating system (old installation) is located in the basement and has a burner that can be heard.
The chimney runs through the house and extends beyond the roof (not surprising), and the burner noise is conducted up through the chimney.
(I have been wearing a hearing aid for a few years and have noticed that it makes it difficult for me to locate the source of sounds. Although I can hear reasonably well, I’m not always sure where the noise is coming from.)
Strangely, I never noticed the noise on the middle floor before, and I still don’t hear it there, but the upper part of the chimney was rebuilt recently – so it is made of different material than the old part.
I assume that I hear the burner noise in the attic space.
We are planning to replace the oil heating system with a geothermal heat pump. It has no burner, so I am hoping for a quiet retirement... unless Putin advances to northern Hesse (meant as a joke, but not entirely funny :rolleyes 🙂.
