Hello,

After much consideration, two masonry options remain for my planning.

1. 17.5cm (7 inches) calcium silicate brick plus 20cm (8 inches) Neopor (modified EPS)
2. 42.5cm (17 inches) Poroton T7 block with mineral wool insulation

The reason I am considering the first option is mainly due to sound insulation (outdoor noise and the thinner wall build-up). Additionally, the interior walls would also be made of calcium silicate brick, which I see as an extra advantage. It is also relatively cost-effective.

Disadvantages: possible algae growth, not impact- or woodpecker-resistant (we live right by the forest, but I haven’t heard of any problems so far), and potentially some follow-up costs for façade maintenance.

These disadvantages are addressed by the insulated Poroton block, which also provides good sound insulation. However, the interior walls would still need to be constructed with calcium silicate bricks.

Is this a reasonable and feasible approach?

The only drawback to this solution is the cost 🙁

If you are plastering, I would prefer option 2.

Hello BeHaEIJa,

yes, that's correct, the whole thing is of course planned as a plaster facade.

Is that reasonably possible?

In general, you should avoid mixing materials when building a house!

If you want to build interior walls using calcium silicate bricks, there will be fine cracks at the junction between the calcium silicate wall and the exterior brick wall. This can be expected due to the different properties of the materials. However, even with the same material used for both exterior and interior walls, fine cracks can still sometimes occur in these areas.
