ᐅ Building with an architect – is it really more affordable?

Hello,
an architect told us that building according to the HOAI fee structure is at least as cost-effective as building with Dieter Viehbrockhaus or Heinz von Heiden.
He explained that this is because construction companies already factor in their costs for show homes and similar expenses, while as an architect he directly hires the craftsmen and so on.
Is that a fair statement? Or is it more likely an unverifiable marketing claim on his part?
Thank you very much for your experiences and assessments.

Why do you think so? There is a budget that the architect has to stick to, right??

The architect plans and estimates the costs. If commissioned, they also handle the tendering process. Only once you receive the bids do you have the actual costs (provided everything is complete).

Doesn’t it have to be very clearly defined what is included in that price?
It can be overwhelming. Or do you then need a second architect to check the first one?

You can follow the phases described in the HOAI. No, you don’t need a second architect any more than you need a second pair of shoelaces on your shoes.

Just go to an architect for an initial consultation and gather some knowledge.
Hmm, can you just "show up" like that? Wouldn't it be better to already know what you want?

Yes, you can. Who’s stopping you?
Yes, you should at least have a rough idea. Unfortunately, you’re fishing in so many “as cheap as possible” ponds that maybe a professional should guide you at some point.

First, it should be clarified whether fishing is worthwhile at all.
Maybe then it becomes clear that you can’t conduct deep-sea fishing with a toy fishing rod.

@nordanney and many others are simply right. Certain services naturally come with a price. No forum can change that. When you buy a car, the same model costs roughly the same at different dealerships. Of course, you can vary the brand and features. It's the same with building a house. Indeed, find yourself a construction manager or consultant.
