Bauexperte17 Mar 2012 13:47Hello,
Color is just color at first – regardless of its different types and purposes.
What you are probably referring to is a base coat plaster, which should be designed to prevent moisture from penetrating the masonry; that is usually why a bituminous thick coat is applied before a "base paint" is put on. Most homeowners choose to paint this in a gray color because dirt splashes from the ground are less noticeable when it rains.
However, you can use this paint to cover your entire house.
Kind regards

So what exactly does this mean? Is there no difference other than the color?

No, I don’t mean base plaster. My house is finished because I bought it one year ago. However, there are some spots on the base and on the facade that I should repair. That’s why I’m asking: what is the difference between base paint and facade paint? Both base paint and facade paint are sold—so what is the difference? As far as I know, both types of paint are water-repellent, or...? There must be a reason for base paint and facade paint to exist. Best regards to everyone.
