ᐅ Attach Ikea Expedit Desk to 2x2 Shelf Unit

Hello,

I wanted to attach the Expedit desk to the 2x2 Expedit unit (the smallest one) available for 19 euros.

Now I realize that the metal mounting bracket on the desk is only designed for the narrow shelves in the Expedit unit. I would need the mounting brackets configured so that there is a wide support on both sides.

Has anyone encountered a similar problem?

Drilling into the Expedit unit might compromise its structural integrity because it would damage the honeycomb structure, right?

That’s correct. You cannot drill into an Expedit because the inside of the Expedit is hollow. You can only try to enlarge the surface area, for example by using a panel, to increase the mounting area. If I understood that correctly.
