narmiHello!
I would appreciate your advice on the following topic:
My new apartment will be completed in early 2017, and we are currently finalizing details for the bathroom. We want to use the bathtub in the main bathroom as a shower as well and planned to install the bathtub fittings and the showerhead at the head end of the tub. However, the architects advise against this layout. They say that the curved part of the tub is at the head end, meaning the distance from the wall to the flat part of the tub floor (where you stand) is about 46cm (18 inches). Therefore, the showerhead might barely reach my head. They recommend placing the fittings and shower rail on the side of the tub instead. I find this somewhat unusual. A friend who is also an architect recommends the installation at the head end. Now we are a bit uncertain and can hardly find any discussions about this topic online.
What do you think?
Best regards,
IAS

We also have a bathtub that is intended to be used as a shower.
The head end of the tub is sloped, so you can't stand there. Therefore, a shower rod would be impractical in that area. We chose a bathtub where a) two people can bathe comfortably and b) you can stand up well.
The foot end is consequently wide enough to provide enough space, not just for feet.
The shower rod is installed on the long side, about one-third of the way from the foot end. The bathtub faucet is also located there. Everything is fine as it is.
Placing the shower controls on the short side would be unsuitable if you plan to install a folding shower screen.

W.Woodpecker1 Oct 2015 12:36If you often want to bathe together, installing the fixtures in the middle of the long side makes a lot of sense because then both of you have your heads free—quite literally. In my case, the taps and shower rail are at the foot end of the bathtub, which is also used as a shower. Can’t you simply rotate the tub so your feet point toward the fixtures?

And how often you actually bathe together...
We originally had the Duo model from Kaldewei, but by now we will probably choose a bathtub with one sloped side and one rounded side, because we mostly bathe alone (180cm (71 inches) tub, both 175/180cm (69/71 inches) tall), and that would require a 200cm (79 inches) tub to lie down somewhat comfortably.
Therefore, the faucet is also installed at the foot end, with a TV above it, and then it’s on.
