After our architect took almost a year to complete the planning, construction finally started in early April, and as of today, only the masonry is finished—there’s not even a roof yet. The architect is also responsible for site supervision, and we hold him accountable for several issues.
First, we had no construction power for 9 weeks, so the workers had to use the neighbor’s outlet. Then, we barely avoided a fine because construction began without the architect submitting any type of construction status notification at the start. Afterwards, the authorities issued a stop-work order because the architect failed to have scaffolding installed, even though work was already underway on the first floor! We receive neither information nor clear answers when we ask.
At the moment, construction is stalled for reasons unknown to us, and the architect is not responding to phone calls, faxes, or letters. We have already threatened to terminate his contract, but we are being ignored. Is this normal? Are we just too patient? How should we proceed? Unfortunately, all trades have to be contracted separately, so a new architect would have a lot of work waiting. Any advice is greatly appreciated...
