I am planning to fit alternative handles on the doors of my IKEA Kallax unit. My main question is: Which types of alternative handles, levers, or opening mechanisms are compatible or recommended for Kallax doors without compromising stability and appearance? I am particularly interested in options that allow for easy installation, possibly without drilling, or at least with minimal modifications. Do you have any experience with handles from other furniture ranges, leather handles, rope handles, or even handle strips? Which dimensions should I consider, and are there models that I can confidently purchase afterwards? I would also appreciate any installation tips and material recommendations.

Leather handles work well if you attach them with small screws.I can confirm that. However, I would recommend pre-drilling holes before screwing to avoid damaging the leather. Another tip: leather handles age nicely and develop a patina over time, so they are also durable.

Make sure leather handles are made of high-quality materials and have strong stitchingThat is important. Faux leather usually does not last as long.

Thanks for the tips so far, they have been very helpful. I have a question: Does anyone have experience with recessed handles, especially those routed by yourself? How precise do you need to be, and how can you avoid damaging the material? Also, if you recommend clamp handles – which ones are good in terms of handling and quality?

Does anyone have experience with recessed handles, especially self-routed ones?Routing requires precise work and the right router with a stable guide. Curves must be worked out accurately. I recommend a plunge router with a fence to ensure consistent routing lines.
For protection: work slowly and use sharp bits. With materials like MDF covered with melamine or foil, the routing cut is crucial to avoid tear-out. If you are inexperienced, I suggest practicing on a scrap piece first.

Clamp handlesClamp handles are often plastic or metal profiles that attach to the door without drilling. Many feature rubber inserts to prevent slipping. Brands like "Richel" offer such models.
