I am planning to fit alternative handles on the doors of my IKEA Kallax unit. My main question is: Which types of alternative handles, levers, or opening mechanisms are compatible or recommended for Kallax doors without compromising stability and appearance? I am particularly interested in options that allow for easy installation, possibly without drilling, or at least with minimal modifications. Do you have any experience with handles from other furniture ranges, leather handles, rope handles, or even handle strips? Which dimensions should I consider, and are there models that I can confidently purchase afterwards? I would also appreciate any installation tips and material recommendations.

Clamp handles work, but they are often not very stable. If you use the shelf frequently, it is better to screw it securely.

Recessed handles really enhance the look. It is important to carefully plan the exact size and position. A tip: use a template so that all recesses are uniform.

For DIY projects: an edge router can also deliver good results, not just a plunge router.

I once used clamp handles from IKEA. Installation was quick, but they tend to loosen slightly after some time. Suitable for occasional use.

Thank you also for the tips on clamp handles and recessed pulls. I will probably use a template to ensure the positioning is perfect. The idea of leather handles sounds interesting – a very nice contrast to the plain white. If anyone has sources for those, please share.

Leather handles can often be found at specialized furniture and craft stores, for example on Etsy or from local leather workshops. Pay attention to the mounting method. Some have holes for screw fastening, while others are just loops.

One more quick tip about leather handles: If you choose natural leather, I also recommend using a leather conditioner to keep the handles supple. This significantly extends their lifespan and preserves their appearance.
