Hello dear experts,

We have been planning our house for many months now and are starting to feel a bit frustrated. Of course, everything should be perfect. But naturally, we know compromises are necessary.

We are actually quite finished with our floor plan and don’t want to make many more changes. However, I feel that something is missing in the house. From the outside, we really like it, but inside it feels very square and practical, just fine but nothing special.

I would now like to have an open space above our kitchen. Not an open gallery, just a void space. For this, I wanted to share our current floor plan and my ideas with you and hope for some helpful feedback.

Best regards

We have an open space above the kitchen island, and the clattering of dishes is very loud because it also creates a lot of echo. However, it looks absolutely stunning. When building a house, you always have to make a choice between function and appearance; in this case, we chose the appearance.

I don’t necessarily agree about the clattering dishes, since it’s not a traditional balcony but rather enclosed on the upper floor with only 2-3 windows.

So, this would be fully enclosed? Like closed off from the upper floor hallway with a wall? Hmm… However, for a family, it would probably make more sense to use the space as living area rather than turn it into a half-feature.
I wouldn’t do it.

I would do it again anytime.
There is simply a completely different living experience with an open ceiling space.

Even though the question was different:
How are the bathrooms drained?
And: I'm just an experienced parent... Living in such a small house, and then the children can overhear the parents' bedroom and vice versa.

The question is definitely justified!
