MrsMiaDear Forum,
My partner and I are fortunate to inherit a 1950s suburban house in the Aachen metropolitan area earlier than expected. The house is planned to undergo extensive modernization and to be expanded with a single-story solid extension. The overall financing has been discussed with the bank. After some consideration, we decided not to apply for a KfW loan but to commission a "regular" architect for the planning of
- the facade insulation, including plaster
- the extension
- the new layout (some walls will be removed or opened up)
- the replacement of the windows
All other work (plumbing, heating, electrical, interior finishing) will be done by ourselves as self-performed work.
We have already been recommended an architect from the local area. We have scheduled an initial meeting (at the architect’s office) and are simultaneously looking for 2–3 more architects. My question to the experienced community:
How should one approach such an initial meeting? What questions should not be forgotten? What further agreements should be made? How should a good, reliable architect behave during and after the meeting?
Thank you very much
