Wood and metal sheets were considered for the porch roof. In the end, it became a steel frame, over which a truck tarp is tensioned to create a ridge.
The last photo shows an initial cardboard prototype.
By now, it’s finished, and everything works as it should. It has already withstood storms and large hailstones (the car did get hail damage), and the water drains off to the right and left so that you can stay dry when passing through in the rain.
The entrance is one of the important, “communicative” parts of a house.
I wanted something that makes you feel welcomed to come inside.
It shouldn’t be too serious and should have some flow.
I think it succeeded 😎

Personally, I have to agree with @HWTIGGER, though. The roof looks like a visual alien on the house and an eyesore. You notice that yourself, right?
I think it’s stylish and suits the house. The red matches the roof tiles and creates a cheerful first impression. How the design will work out in the long run remains to be seen. But at least it’s not angular, minimalist, and gray for a change.

I think it’s great when houses are truly designed to reflect the preferences of their occupants. And you don’t have to take everything too seriously. Placing a structure like that in a residential area in Germany shows courage and a sense of humor, which is why I like it.

In my view, the biggest "problem" with this canopy – which suits the individual style of the original poster, as we see in many other threads – is that it looks like a foreign object attached to the house. There is no architectural connection to the building, and it appears slapped on just to get attention (sorry [USER=57383]@ateliersiegel).
Ah, someone is turning an existing house into a home for themselves, their little monkey, and their horse, which Dr. Snuggles would probably like as well. What a relief amid a parade of pseudo-villas, Tuscan-style houses, or even worse, replicas of those identical “So-and-so from the local council” houses complete with garden gnomes. The original house is not being demolished to replace it with a trendy floor plan. A home for someone whose grandchildren don’t need bought, mass-produced toys.
