Dear house-building community,
We want to extensively green our carport. It is basically already prepared with an EPDM membrane. This is something we plan to tackle sometime in the future. We have heard that it’s not very complicated, and since we are not under any time pressure, we want to do it ourselves—next year or the year after.
Now the information gathering begins, and I wanted to tap into the collective knowledge here.
Has anyone done this before? Which suppliers can you recommend? What should we definitely pay attention to? Etc.
Did you use seeds or plants? How long does it take until it actually looks good?
Looking forward to your feedback!

There are people who want to do something good for nature as well. 😉
And from the upper floor, you often see the garage. It’s already covered with plants. What else should you do?
My garage (which is also greened) faces north, so naturally, I don’t look that way. So what.

That’s how it is. No insect benefits from a concrete or gravel roof ,-). That wasn’t the point. The roof is already greened, just apparently not visually appealing. Or maybe moss has to be removed as a rule, I don’t know; functionally, the green roof is complete.

It’s already covered with vegetation. What more could you do? Compare the moss to a mixture like Helios from Hof Berggarten. I definitely know what I would choose. Moss-covered might comply with the building permit/planning permission, but it’s a different matter whether it looks nice or is insect-friendly.

Customized mixes are often only available from many suppliers for orders measured in hectares rather than square meters. However, it is important to understand that a good mix is more than just throwing a few packets of seeds together. A high-quality mixture also involves experience and optimization to ensure it suits varying conditions and, in the end, prevents any one plant from dominating completely.
