ᐅ Extensive Green Roof Installation for DIY – Does Anyone Have Experience?

Dear house-building community,

We want to extensively green our carport. It is basically already prepared with an EPDM membrane. This is something we plan to tackle sometime in the future. We have heard that it’s not very complicated, and since we are not under any time pressure, we want to do it ourselves—next year or the year after.

Now the information gathering begins, and I wanted to tap into the collective knowledge here.

Has anyone done this before? Which suppliers can you recommend? What should we definitely pay attention to? Etc.
Did you use seeds or plants? How long does it take until it actually looks good?

Use Bauder sand-lime bricks plus. Depending on the weather, you will have nice greenery in 2 years.
Green roofing is usually done with seeds.

If you were closer to the western border, I would recommend a company from the Netherlands. Based on their quote, we decided to have them do the work instead of doing it ourselves. It costs barely more than the materials here in Germany.

Yes, we would definitely be interested in the recommendation. We are about an hour from the Dutch border, so that should work :-) Many thanks in advance for the suggestion. Have you also noticed an improvement in indoor climate during the hot summer months thanks to the green roof?

We received the plants from Bauder and installed them. It went completely smoothly, and the plant quality is excellent – no losses.
