Good evening everyone,
Today we received a letter from the BG Bau regarding the builder information form.
They ask us to provide our details and list which trades will be carried out by construction helpers.
We are building with a general contractor. As I understand it, can I simply provide the contact details of the GC for each trade? It’s difficult for me to know which subcontractors the GC will specifically hire for the various trades.
The only exception is the painting work, which we will be doing ourselves, where I will select “builder.”
Payment is only required for helper hours not performed by companies or the builders themselves.
I would be especially interested in feedback from users who, like us, have built or plan to build with a GC and without external help.

And you are liable for any possible accidents or later damages?
Regards, BauexperteHonestly:
Since the situation with close friends and family is so vaguely defined regarding who is insured and who is not, they would probably try to avoid liability anyway for the painting work mentioned by Masipulami.

I think other interested readers are following this as well
Also, to be honest: I really don’t understand?! Homeowners spend thousands of euros, and then for what is, by comparison, pocket change for the workers’ compensation insurance it should fall apart? That can’t be true.
Could the workers’ compensation insurance try to avoid responsibility in the worst case? I can’t confirm that; I have had different experiences with their handling and am therefore more convinced than ever that it’s better to answer honestly. Back then, I couldn’t have paid the surgery costs etc. out of my own pocket ... those are quite hefty amounts. Fortunately, no follow-up damages have occurred; at least not so far. And if they do—which, God forbid—workers’ compensation insurance will also cover the resulting costs.

One more time: We will not have any friends or family on site during construction. Painting will be the only task we do ourselves, and as homeowners, we won’t be involved in any other work anyway.
I don’t understand the discussion. If all work is carried out by professional companies, they are named because they have already contributed to the overall workers’ compensation insurance. As a builder, you can decide whether to work at your own risk or not, meaning whether you want to be covered by the workers’ compensation insurance or not.
Helpers must be insured through the workers’ compensation insurance, and in my opinion, this should be done honestly, as no other organization can offer the benefits of the workers’ compensation insurance in case of an accident at this price.
In any case, I want people who have accidents on my construction site to receive the best possible treatment, disability pension, or support.
I fully agree with the building expert: if you can’t afford 50 euros per hour, you shouldn’t be building.
