Good evening everyone,
Today we received a letter from the BG Bau regarding the builder information form.
They ask us to provide our details and list which trades will be carried out by construction helpers.
We are building with a general contractor. As I understand it, can I simply provide the contact details of the GC for each trade? It’s difficult for me to know which subcontractors the GC will specifically hire for the various trades.
The only exception is the painting work, which we will be doing ourselves, where I will select “builder.”
Payment is only required for helper hours not performed by companies or the builders themselves.
I would be especially interested in feedback from users who, like us, have built or plan to build with a GC and without external help.

Strange that you haven’t received anything yet.I always keep a low profile so nobody notices me.

So I would advise you to call the BG info hotline (0800 8020 100) and ask.A call might be the best option. The only issue is that the hotline hours clash so much with my work schedule that I can never call from home. Calling from work is not possible either, as I work abroad and cannot dial toll-free numbers from there. Well, this should be the least of my problems.

You can conveniently register your building project online with bgbau, I’ve already done that. But the mandatory accident insurance through bgbau only applies if the work goes beyond simple voluntary help...
I’m not sure about your niece. There is also an information sheet from BG Bau, I’ll look for it.Thank you very much. I have already downloaded the information sheet in the meantime.
I think that (possibly except for my niece) this already goes beyond simple voluntary help. My parents want to come and work for 3 weeks (I hope they don’t overexert themselves at their age), and my sister and brother-in-law are taking time off and will probably work hard during those 4 days (he is from the construction trade and wants to plaster our staircase, hallway, corridor, and the bathrooms—where not tiled).
As for my niece, I’m not sure either—on the one hand, it could be considered voluntary help, but on the other hand, I could never forgive myself if something happened to her and she wasn’t covered. But maybe she will just be looking after our children.
@Doc.Schnaggls
Thanks for the number—I will give them a call.

I’m joining in with my first question in this forum after having read many interesting posts so far.
What is the typical coverage amount for the employer’s liability insurance?
Is it really worth taking the risk of building a house worth several hundred thousand Euros without employer’s liability insurance?
Is the insurance a significant cost factor?
It would be great if someone could share their premium amount.
