Hello everyone,
We bought a house in the Reutlingen district last year, and now it’s time to work on the garden and outdoor areas. They are currently in a completely unfinished state.

We had a landscape architect create a plan for us. Now we would like to know roughly how much this might cost (excluding the pool!). I understand it’s difficult to provide an exact figure, but a ballpark estimate like $50,000, $75,000, or $150,000 would be enough as a starting point.

Thank you very much!

Ground plan of a garden with house, garage, pool, terrace, and trees.

I hope you can communicate better with the architect than you do here. The main issue isn’t the amounts, but the scope of work, product descriptions, and their quantities.

I’d say if someone is willing to spend 100,000 on a garden, they don’t need to haggle over 10,000. Your contact for saving 10,000 is the architect.

I’m quite confident in my communication with the architect. I won’t comment further on the polemic about the 100,000…

But thanks for the other feedback, I’ll get started on coordinating with the architect.

It wasn’t meant polemically. With the project budget and plot size, there is a lot of potential for optimization. Saving 10,000 euros (about 11,000 USD) can be done quickly without it being painful. Your plan is in the luxury segment. It’s difficult to give advice on how to reduce costs without knowing the basis for calculation—from soil replacement to the technical details of the different surface connections and transitions, down to the little bistro table in the breakfast nook. What the plan shows could easily cost 250,000 euros (about 275,000 USD). But it might also be achievable for 50,000 euros (about 55,000 USD).
If you want to save quickly, remove the breakfast nook. Extend the paving across the other areas and furnish the garden with planting containers. These can later be converted into raised beds.

It was around 80k, exactly, and now it’s becoming significantly more expensive, which is why I have my questions here.

Are the 5,000€ (about $5,400) for the architect included in the 120k€ (about $130,000)?
If the original budget was 80k€ (about $87,000) and the "good" one comes in at about 1.5 times that amount, I would be upset. Saving half by cutting items won’t be that simple; a complete revision is more likely necessary.

Regarding the pool size (6 x 3 meters (20 x 10 feet) is rather like a paddling pool if you don’t install a counter-current system), I would maybe consider building a hot tub or Jacuzzi instead. Adults can enjoy that more throughout the year.

I actually find that particularly charming... coming from someone who’s not a morning person 🙂 However, you should consider the neighboring buildings to the east and make sure the garage wall doesn’t appear too bulky (covering with plants or similar).
