ᐅ Should a pathway be constructed if it is intended to be permanently covered with vegetation?

Hello,

I have purchased a newly built semi-detached house.

The houses are all built next to each other with garages in between.
There is a 1-meter (3 feet) gap between the two garages—1 meter (3 feet) for my neighbor and 1 meter (3 feet) for me.

I would like to install a garden gate in this gap, but according to the development plan, this strip must be permanently greened.

Now my question is:

What kind of path am I allowed to build so that I can walk alongside the garage while it still legally counts as green space?

The path should be low-maintenance (I don’t like grass because my robotic lawn mower can’t reach it).

Do you have any tips for me?

I don’t want to spoil the illusion, but even with a robotic mower, you still need a lawn mower for the edges, the first cut of the season, etc.
Or at least a place where you can rent one.

For 3 sqm (32 sq ft), a small manual reel mower is sufficient.

Most of the area is covered by stones anyway.
You could also make the stones a bit smaller and increase the gaps between them.

@guckguck My parents have had a robot mower for several years and have never needed to use a traditional lawn mower for the first cut of the year.

For the edges, we will install edging stones around the lawn to avoid any issues with the borders.

That is reassuring and encouraging at the same time. I am planning to get a robot mower for the upcoming season, and we have only recently invested in a mower.

Agree with your neighbor. Leave out the fence. On 2m (6.5 ft) width, you can easily lay wide, bike-friendly stepping slabs and still have enough space around them for greenery.

I’m getting some great tips again. 😀
Cutting a 1m (3 ft) strip with a scythe and so on…

And then the robotic mower wouldn’t get onto the green strip because of the gate?! I think the green area is behind the gate, not in front of it.

One meter (3 ft) can be quite tight when pushing a wheelbarrow between the fence and the garage…

Maybe you should show the plan first…
