Hello,

we are planning to install a lift-and-slide door in the living room instead of two double doors side by side, each with two panels that open inward (I don’t know the exact term right now).

In the living room, these are the only windows, and on the ground floor there is only one more window in the open kitchen.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of a lift-and-slide door compared to two double doors, especially in relation to a KfW55 building standard?

I do think the surcharge, precisely because it is a surcharge, is a bit high, but that seems to be normal with the developer.
When I bought my condominium back then, I paid 8,000 EUR for a walk-in shower.
You could ask again if you are allowed to have the two double windows as combined units. For example, a 4m (13 feet) window with two fixed 1m (3 feet) elements on the outer sides, and then the double casement with a mullion in the middle.

I will ask again.

The extra cost is due to the KFW55 standard and triple glazing, which require additional reinforcement of the wall and structural framework.

I will also inquire whether an asymmetric lift-and-slide door is possible.

For example, 3m (10 feet) fixed and 2m (6.5 feet) movable.

We have two lift-and-slide doors, each with a total width of only 2.7 meters (9 feet). Even the nominal 1.35-meter (4.5-foot) clear opening is quite large, so in practice, we rarely fully open them. In short, a narrow opening is usually sufficient.

One thing to keep in mind with lift-and-slide doors is the significant frame width. It’s best to ask for cross-sections of the profiles. I hadn’t considered this enough for our doors and was somewhat disappointed that the appearance is noticeably different from the adjacent fixed glazing.

I can definitely tell you the disadvantage if the original poster is too lazy to indicate in which of their many threads the house being discussed is located:
The former window manufacturer will then not respond. You can't work like that!

Why is everything here always so hostile right away? Can’t people just ask normally?

There is no hostility here, and certainly no immediate negativity. I visit regularly and people often say I have a good memory. If I don’t recall a house design related to a case, it is very likely that such a plan has not actually been published yet. Many original posters show an almost unreasonable level of laissez-faire regarding which background information should courteously be made easily accessible when they are already receiving qualified advice without any contribution fee during office hours. Omitting the link to the main thread is a recurring issue here; a notable exception I can recall is @Tolentino. Also, how often Yvonne’s questionnaire is only partially provided after repeated requests and sometimes more than a week after the initial post is frankly no longer amusing. Furthermore, I allow myself to believe that my directness is appropriate in relation to my willingness to help. A post-to-likes ratio of only 2.02:1 probably isn’t because I just complain ;-)
