A local carpentry workshop made us beautiful larch shutters… however, they were untreated/raw. We primed them ourselves and painted them with our chosen color (RAL 7033 cement gray) using a spray gun. Today we installed them.. tada..

I know that for trees. For shading measures on the house, there is a similar feeling involved, but moisture regulation does not play a role as it does with trees.

Finally, no RAL 7016 wonderland with a rock garden. Very nice!

Thank you very much for the many likes and the kind responses. That makes me quite proud and a little bit shy 😉. I will gladly gather some pictures and create a separate post. But that will take a little more time…

Beautiful! I would love to have some as well. May I ask what you paid the carpenter?

For the 4 shutters (approximately 50cm x 150cm (20 inches x 59 inches)) made of larch, we paid 520 euros.

That is a fair price! I would also love to have shutters, but unfortunately, the arrangement of our windows is far from ideal for that, and my husband isn’t really in favor of them either. However, I find shutters visually unbeatable and definitely a functional alternative to "ugly" roller blinds. Our house originally had shutters as well, but during renovations over the decades, the window layout was changed and the shutters were removed.

I’m wondering if shutters also look nice on a hip roof and/or floor-to-ceiling windows?

I also have shutters—aluminum, powder-coated. They look great and always give the house a Mediterranean touch.
Of course, you need to be able to open the windows to close the shutters. However, the window dimensions also need to match accordingly.

I was very lucky. Years ago, I found the right shutters in Balingen. They fit perfectly in size, and even the color matched exactly.
Maybe I’ll upload a picture sometime. I installed the shutters on the exposed side of the house. On the weather-facing and back sides, it wasn’t really feasible due to the dimensions. The listed price for 5 windows was 6000 euros. I bought them for 300 and installed them myself. Another 100€ for installation materials.
They will probably last another 50 years.
