ᐅ Patio umbrella does not close

Hello!
We have a typical Northern German problem – the weather is changing and it’s getting stormy here.
During the summer temperatures today, we set up and used our brand-new ( 🙁 ) cantilever umbrella.
Now, in the evening, we wanted to close it, but when turning the crank counterclockwise, the umbrella doesn’t close; instead, the crank handle comes off in our hand.
It unscrews from the thread.
There was a small screw inside, which we tried to screw back in, but when turning counterclockwise again, it just falls out.
This is our first (and probably last) cantilever umbrella. Can anyone give us quick advice on how to close it without the crank, preferably without damaging it?
I couldn’t find any useful information on Google.
If I leave it open, it will probably end up three properties down tomorrow. 🙁

Alternatively, use a slightly larger screw and gently force it in. However, I suspect the screw is made of steel, while the crank is probably aluminum in a softer (cheaper) alloy. You have to be very careful not to “break” the part.
I’m actually hesitant to try that. As you can see from the pictures, there isn’t much “material” left anyway, and I don’t have a larger screw with a similar thread that I could force in. I have plenty of those Fischer-type screws used for fixing shelves to walls, but their threads always have a much wider spacing.

The strange screw that was in the umbrella, on the other hand, has an incredible number of threads—such a weird piece. I didn’t have anything like it in my (small, but existing) collection.

Now I don’t know what to do. My husband is not handy and prefers to return it.
I’m cheap and don’t want to spend more than €100 (about $110) on an umbrella that we only plan to use for 2-3 years.
The umbrella we have was the last of its kind and is now sold out. The alternatives look visibly flimsier in the photos compared to our €100 (about $110) umbrella, so I’m reluctant to swap it.

I could contact OBI again to see if they would offer the 25% discount and let us keep it. But then I would need to find a workable solution for the crank issue.
The crank can be bought separately for €5 (about $5.50), but I doubt that would help with the damaged thread.

Have you ever tried screwing in the screw without using a crank? Does it hold then, or does it slip out?

Yes, I have tried that. You can practically push it in and pull it out with your finger without much resistance; it doesn’t hold anymore as it is.

If I remember the picture correctly, that is a set screw.
You can find them in well-stocked hardware stores.

I don’t see a grub screw anywhere there.
That is a Phillips screw that secures the rectangular part so the crank engages.

As mentioned, this was from memory. It was a few days ago, and I haven’t reviewed it again.
