Hello dear members,

I have the following problem.

I am currently in the process of building a multi-family house with 10 residential units. All the plans are completed, and the building permit / planning permission application is in progress. My architect is currently working on the thermal insulation. The building is planned to meet KfW 70 standards.

He called me and said that he cannot meet the thermal insulation requirements with a gas heating system, no matter how thick the insulation is, achieving KfW 70 standard would not be possible. According to him, it would be possible with a pellet heating system!

Right now, I don’t quite understand what this has to do with each other! Could someone clarify this for me? Unfortunately, my architect is away for a week, so I can only follow up with him then.

Honestly, I’m not convinced about using a pellet heating system for such a large building with 4 floors and 850 m² (9,150 ft²) of living space, and besides, you would need a huge tank / container for that.

Do you have any advice for me? I urgently need some guidance.

Thank you!

It should be clarified where the issue lies—whether it is with the H’t value or the Qp value.
Pellet heating systems benefit on paper from the low primary energy factor ;-)

For this, the calculation must be available in order to identify the problem.
