Hello everyone,

I am considering connecting our future photovoltaic system with a hot water heat pump in the basement and also powering it with photovoltaic electricity. Both will be installed in a new build.

Now the question: what interfaces does the heat pump need to have, and what additional equipment will I need?

Thanks in advance.

I don’t understand the question. All electrical wiring comes together at the breaker panel or meter cabinet. When the photovoltaic system generates electricity, it is used within the household. This also powers the heat pump.

Basically, your heat pump draws electricity from the photovoltaic system when it generates power. Therefore, the heat pump should not be connected to a separate meter but included in the household electricity supply. Optionally, the photovoltaic system with its components and the heat pump can be linked together using a suitable module.

That is clear. It’s more about controlling the heat pump. I would like to prioritize the heat pump over all other consumers. If the heat pump is Smart Grid capable, I see the following three control options:

1. Connect directly to the inverter
2. Use a smart meter
3. Control via an energy management system

I will clarify the question: what should I consider with these three solutions, and how do they differ in terms of control level? Links to existing answers are also welcome.

I still don’t quite understand. Should the heat pump use the “own” generated electricity, and the refrigerator use the purchased electricity? What is the difference? Or do you mean the heat pump should run only when electricity is being produced?

Yes, exactly. Own electricity before all other consumers. There is a reason why I have to do it this way, but that is not important for the task right now.
