ᐅ Should I start requesting quotes already? Financial planning

Hello dear community,
we would like to build our house ourselves and are currently in the planning phase. We are searching for a plot of land, and the almost final design drawing is ready.
Our question is whether we should already request quotes from various contractors. We understand that things might change due to the soil survey, structural engineering, or building permit / planning permission. Our main goal is to get a rough cost estimate for construction financing. Maybe someone has done something similar before.

Great, if the design is finished and the contractors are ready. Not so great if the zoning plan doesn’t fit the house.

Usually, you choose a plot first and then design the house accordingly. Reasons include orientation, soil conditions, plot size, building envelope, zoning plan, and so on.
So no, it doesn’t make sense if you don’t have land. Better to ask the bank first what they would finance – at that point, costs don’t really matter.

Yes, we will. We wouldn’t buy a plot where we can’t build our planned house anyway. I can still comply with the zoning regulations. I’m drawing it myself, so there’s plenty of room for adjustments. Also, I specifically mentioned that ground conditions don’t matter at this stage. It’s more about the basic structure—roof, masonry, windows and doors, screed, etc.

Is the selection of plots really that large where you are? The reality as I know it seems different to me.

The approach doesn’t really make sense this way.

Where at AdW do you live that you have a free choice of plots? Even just the zoning plan requirement on whether you can build one or two stories will significantly limit your options. As a draftsman, you should know that your approach is actually impractical.
