Hello dear community,
we would like to build our house ourselves and are currently in the planning phase. We are searching for a plot of land, and the almost final design drawing is ready.
Our question is whether we should already request quotes from various contractors. We understand that things might change due to the soil survey, structural engineering, or building permit / planning permission. Our main goal is to get a rough cost estimate for construction financing. Maybe someone has done something similar before.

To be honest, we did it the other way around as well. We planned our house to meet our wishes and priorities. Only near the end of this process did we find a plot of land that we liked and adjusted a few minor details to fit the conditions and the building regulations / planning permission.
So, you can't really generalize this, even though 90% of people do it the other way around. It also depends a lot on personal preferences regarding the location of the building site, the floor plan, and many other factors.
