Hello everyone,
We have the opportunity to buy a plot of land that is 22m (72 feet) wide and 65m (213 feet) long. It is a north-facing lot. How do you usually approach a situation like this? Do you position the house towards the back or the front?
I have uploaded a few pictures for better understanding. The map excerpt is oriented north.
One important criterion for us is "maximum sunlight." Where should the main entrance be located? How can we create a southwest-facing terrace?
Thank you and best regards,
Max

Since the lot is so long, I would (if possible) position the house toward the front. Preferably as close as possible to the northwest boundary.Do you mean like this?Zaba12 schrieb:
Is this a commercial area? What is the land use like there? What does the zoning plan say?
65m (213 feet) is extremely large. We have about 20m x 31m (66 feet x 102 feet) and I already find the 31m (102 feet) quite long. It is a residential area, with houses (or a retirement home) on both sides. Yes, it is narrow and long.
Please also keep in mind that sitting in direct sunlight all day during the summer is not enjoyable.
If you haven’t experienced this before, it might come as an unpleasant surprise.
I can really relate. In our current rental house, the terrace is practically unusable in summer due to the lack of shade. Even an umbrella and several sun sails offer only limited relief.
That’s why I’m looking forward to our house with a north-facing orientation.

Do you mean something like this?Exactly. Whether it is oriented lengthwise or crosswise, or maybe square, you need to decide or discuss it with your architect. The garage or carport also needs to be located somewhere. And finally, it has to comply with the building permit / planning permission.
