ᐅ Is the plot of land too expensive for your overall budget?

Hello everyone!
I just registered because my husband and I are moving back to beautiful Lower Saxony from the Stuttgart area and are planning to build a house.
We have found a plot of land that we really like. This plot costs about 120,000€ (approximately $130,000). We have been thinking that our finished house, including all ancillary building costs, notary fees, the land, property transfer tax, and everything else involved, shouldn’t cost much more than 500,000€ (about $545,000). This would leave us some room for interior design like the bathroom, kitchen, flooring, and so on. Is this a realistic plan, or would it be wiser to look for a smaller plot?
This is all completely new to us, so I would really appreciate any helpful advice!
Best regards

45 minutes driving one way if you want to buy something? I'll leave that region to others...What do you mean by "if you want to buy something"? There are certainly shops here, and several small towns are even closer, so you don’t always have to go to one of the mentioned cities for small errands. And if you want to do a more extensive shopping trip, a maximum of 45 minutes is probably reasonable.H

- Pharmacy, doctors
- Hardware store
- Bicycle shop
- Computer store
- Electronics like at Conrad
- Stuff for any kind of hobby
Basically everything that the nearest supermarket and clothing store don’t have.
Without a car, you’re pretty much stuck.

Without a car, you’re lost. Yes, currently you still need a car in rural areas. By the way, an e-bike is a great way to increase your range, even if the terrain is hilly. When someone is ill, there is always someone helpful nearby in a good neighborhood.
When I’m tired and want peace and quiet, I don’t want to have to travel somewhere first.
When I’m energetic and want action, I also have the strength for it.
Everything within walking distance except for retreat? I’d rather have a 30-minute trip to Cologne Cathedral (or another city).
Honestly, for hobbies, you order everything online anyway. I haven’t bought clothes locally for a long time because they are expensive or the right size isn’t available. Only a hardware store would be something I’d miss.
Going out in the evening seems more difficult to me, as I would miss the variety.
