It was a good documentary, but a lot of things were exaggerated. The guy with the wall in the bathroom—yes, okay, he placed a brick too far, but it was then corrected.

The drama was probably ten times worse during construction.

I felt sorry for the people with the unfinished houses. I found the lawyer’s statement alarming that legal disputes in construction can drag on for years.

So it’s David versus Goliath. Always try to find a solution.

It is meant to raise awareness.
Look at the construction site
Check everything
Do not approve anything you do not understand

I also found it shocking that a legal dispute can drag on for years

Well, you’re up against professionals. They know that customers often "threaten" with lawyers at first. They probably don’t care about that. And a contractor usually has a good lawyer and the financial resources. The customer eventually gets exhausted... financially and emotionally...

Especially with tight financing. You’re forced to make sure everything fits.

I have looked into it as well. Yes, these are indeed unfortunate and sometimes extreme cases. But you have to put it into perspective; something as complex as building a house with multiple craftspeople will probably never go completely without issues. Some problems are simply due to negligence. For example, a house built too low—there is already a site plan during the planning phase, which is part of the building permit/planning permission documents. That’s where you check how it will actually be before approving it.
And let’s not forget, for most people things generally go quite smoothly or at least tolerably well. You can’t expect more during a construction boom.

One must not forget that although (in general terms) everyone complains about the main contractor and the trades, almost everything is countersigned and reviewed by the client themselves. A turnkey contract doesn’t protect against negligence. 😎

Undisputed.
Honestly, how many homeowners actually take care and inform themselves? Just a few here?
More attention is given to the kitchen discussion in the Spiegel article than to the house itself. There is some truth to that.

normal

People invest more money in which smartphone has the nicest, biggest display and read 8 hours of Amazon reviews, but when it comes to building, everything is just generalized.
