ᐅ Working on the construction site on Sundays?

Every Sunday, I find myself wondering what kind of construction work is allowed or possible on Sundays and public holidays.

Usually, there isn’t much time during the week, so currently I’m working on the house every Sunday.

All the windows are installed, but we still have two construction doors that don’t provide good sound insulation.

For example, today I would need to clean up the debris from plastering the ceiling and vacuum the loose insulation fibers between the rafters.
My wife says, “That’s really not acceptable.”

What do you think? What kind of work have you done on Sundays?

Thanks.

That would certainly be better, but it would have been even better not to make such noise during quiet hours. And to place fences and hedges on your own property, where they belong…

You’re exaggerating.

In my opinion, your perception that “telling them” is the first step of escalation is incorrect. Before that, people experience other feelings such as “well, it’s annoying, but it’s probably just this once,” or “they’re making noise again, so I’ll just go inside and continue reading,” up to “next time, I’ll say something” or “that annoying neighbor again” (at this point, it’s definitely resentment that you won’t be informed about).

Two examples:

I only have a small lawn in the front yard, and yesterday I mowed behind the house. Mowing the front would have taken about 10 minutes (5 inches). However, the neighbors were sitting on their terrace next door and started grilling. It was around 6 p.m., so I was allowed to mow, and it doesn’t take long. But do you want a lawn mower running while the family is having their first sunny day barbecue? No, so I decided to wait and mow that area on Monday instead. Although I think they wouldn’t have said anything if I had run the mower for 10 minutes, even if it disturbed them (“why right now? well, it’ll probably be over soon”).

On the other hand, we have a new neighbor across the street who is often at his house renovating it. He repeatedly parks directly opposite our driveway, even though there are no driveways 5 meters (16 feet) to the left or right that he would be blocking. We can still get onto our driveway, but sometimes with some maneuvering. It’s annoying because it’s unnecessary, as there is plenty of parking space everywhere else. I’ve noticed it for a while, but I didn’t want to go over just to complain. We don’t even know each other yet, so maybe I’ll mention it if we happen to run into each other.

Difficult topic.
Another new housing development was added behind our new build area. Naturally, there is construction noise there. But there are also those ongoing construction sites where it feels like nothing is happening. And when work does happen, it tends to be done at the last minute, often late into the night or on Sundays because a tradesperson showed up and needed some preparatory work done...

So one new neighbor, who mainly worked from 6:00 pm and on Sundays, decided to lay and compact the entire driveway on Easter Monday.
We still accepted the laying and cutting of the slabs.
But when he started compacting the driveway at around 12:30 pm, I had to intervene.
Our then 1-year-old child couldn’t sleep and was just crying—it’s no surprise given the noise...

He was quite surprised that it bothered us.
Of course, at midday, on a public holiday...
When asked why he didn’t do it on Saturday, when he was lounging in the deck chair playing on his phone, he was rather embarrassed...

What can you say?
In the end, we still get along well, especially since we addressed it politely...

But apparently, people have different levels of noise sensitivity...

Today is Sunday. The weather is beautiful springtime. Everyone, including us, is working in the garden. No one, including us, is running any machines. I really find that quite nice. Karsten

Today, I applied the waterproofing slurry to the street-facing balcony for the second time; however, I only did this while the children were at the church for their First Communion.

The noisiest part was mixing the waterproofing slurry with the cordless drill.

Same here. And if it weren’t for the motorcyclists, it would be truly peaceful . (The wind was unfavorable; the road isn’t that close, yet I’m still surprised every time that something that loud is even allowed.)
