ᐅ Can the air-to-water heat pump also be used for cooling in the summer?

...according to some reports, this can work (depending on the construction type).
I imagine it like this: In winter, water circulates through the underfloor heating loops at a temperature a few degrees warmer than my desired room temperature, and in summer, when it’s around 35°C (95°F) outside, the heat pump delivers water at 18°C (64°F) or even cooler. Since the sun is shining, the heat pump runs on its own electricity, and I have a comfortable 23°C (73°F) inside the house.
Of course, the cold air doesn’t rise, so you might only have cold feet, and if it’s set too cool, maybe some damp spots.
Maybe this isn’t needed at all if the building is well insulated and the indoor temperature stays about 10 degrees lower than outside.
Still, I would be interested in your opinions on this topic.

I have prepared it for four rooms, but due to our financial situation, it will probably be installed later. Preparation costs are around 300 euros.

Sebastian7930 May 2016 11:43That doesn’t really increase the price much – the differences between the lowest and highest output are usually around 200-300 euros per unit.
For four Mitsubishi design units including the multisplit system, I pay about 4000 euros.

Well-insulated houses can resist heat for a while, as the walls store the warmth and then release it gradually. However, if a heatwave lasts for an extended period, even the best-insulated building will eventually warm up, despite natural or mechanical ventilation. At that point, maintaining a comfortable 20°C (68°F) indoors becomes difficult. It also takes a long time to get rid of the accumulated heat.
Therefore, air conditioning may make the situation more bearable. We do not plan to have one initially, but it might be considered and installed if necessary in the future.

Sebastian7930 May 2016 13:48That’s actually the main issue 😉 – no matter how well insulated and protected against summer heat, eventually it just gets warm inside the house.
And then you “need” air conditioning – humidity is also a factor.
For a new build, I would always pre-install the infrastructure for air conditioning in certain rooms, meaning run the necessary wiring. Retrofitting later on is quite easy.
