Hello,
I want to renovate our bedroom, which is on the ground floor, and I am considering a ventilation system or an air conditioner.
The room is about 20 sqm (215 sq ft), and there will be a small wooden extension added.
This extension will be around 15 sqm (160 sq ft).
The house is an older building, and in summer it tends to get quite warm in the room, so I am thinking about how to keep it cool during the summer.
Until now, I have been opening the windows and the patio door at night or early in the morning when it cools down to lower the temperature.
Now I would like to automate this process.
I hope it’s clear what I want to do... ;-)
What would be a good solution for this?
Simply a fan that automatically turns on at night to bring in cool outside air?
An air conditioner?
What would be feasible?
The extension will have good insulation, but that might not be very useful because with three children and a dog running in and out through the open door during summer, it won’t be that simple.
Thanks and best regards, Lars

Hmm, I always thought 2.7 kW is 2.7 kW, since I have some experience with this. Of course, you have to forget about bargain prices from eBay if you want something decent. A good portable unit will already cost in the high three-digit range. But it’s still cheaper than 1500 for a split system, which doesn’t even have more power.

How do you exhaust the hot air with a portable unit?

muppet12345627 Mar 2016 12:12I once had a portable unit.
At first, we just vented it through the tilted window using some kind of sealing, and later on, we drilled two holes in the wall.
In my opinion, it wasn’t really effective—too noisy, too much power consumption...
But that was probably about 15 years ago.
By the way, the budget is up to 1500€ (about $1600).
What would you recommend? LG, Mitsubishi, Comfee, Panasonic...

How do you get the hot air out with a portable unit?So how do you connect the outdoor unit to the indoor unit in a split system (refrigerant lines, power, condensate, etc.)? You will need to drill a hole for that. Of course, the hot air has to be vented outside, using a 125/160 mm (5/6 inch) exhaust vent, depending on the unit. Split systems, especially if they are only running in cooling mode and perhaps only occasionally, are not that simple. You need to pay very close attention to hygiene. So you have to climb the ladder, take it apart, then climb down the ladder again...
Muppet: I would recommend 3 out of the four products without hesitation.
