Hello,
We are currently renovating our house, and everything is still in the shell stage. I would like to make my home a bit smarter in terms of control and monitoring. The system should be wireless.
Since there are so many systems available, I am not sure which one would be right for me. I hope you can help and guide me in the right direction.
What I want:
Lighting control, dimming, or use of motion sensors in the hallways, storage room, stairs. Time- and brightness-based control of selected lights.
For example:
Lighting controlled by a brightness sensor so that when the room is too dark and movement is detected, the light turns on; manual switching should also be possible. This should also apply outdoors on the property.
From 10 PM to 7 AM, generally dimmed lighting in selected rooms.
Lighting control via smartphone
Heating control
Shutter/blind control via smartphone
Garage door control via smartphone
Camera surveillance via smartphone
Smart plugs controlled via smartphone
For the lights, I like the Philips Hue system, but I need recessed spotlights that are Zigbee compatible. For heating control and so on, I find the Bosch solution good. What do you recommend for electric shutters/blinds? Through which system can these devices be controlled without having to use 12 different apps?
What should I keep in mind when setting this up?
Best regards and thanks in advance

Benutzer199 Oct 2018 22:09I also found Homee quite interesting. How large is the community there, and can you get help with questions?
The reason it wasn’t an option for me is that the Homeegrams are too limited, as far as I understood. They only offer if/then rules. I use much more than that.
Another point was that with iobroker I can use many more manufacturers and their products, and I wanted to use Xiaomi products because they are good and very affordable.

Benutzer199 Oct 2018 22:56Look for Xiaomi sensors or Aqara sensors; they are essentially the same.
I use window/door sensors, water sensors, and motion sensors.

hinkelstein1 Nov 2018 11:29Hello, I am about to start a new build and am facing similar challenges. I also want to integrate a smart home system but don’t have the time to dive deeply into it. So far, my research has shown that I would prefer a KNX system, ideally wired. I’ve also considered Homeway wiring ;-) I believe a combination of both might be possible. Regarding costs, I primarily don’t want to spend more than €10,000 (about $11,000). Before anyone gets upset: initially, just the house wiring would be enough for me. I plan to add the end devices step by step later on. What would be a realistic price for the wiring of roller shutters, light switches, and so on?
How does Homeway work together with KNX—are there advantages to using both, or would it be smarter to just use empty conduits? I hope this isn’t too confusing ;-)
Thanks in advance and good luck!

Well, it depends on what exactly you want. Smart home is initially just a buzzword used in glossy magazines. It can mean anything.
KNX is basically only available wired. The wireless solutions in KNX are extremely expensive and are really only used when it is absolutely impossible to install wiring.
Depending on what, how, why, and for what purpose you want it, you can implement KNX starting around 5,000 (currency not specified), but then it will truly only be a standalone solution, like controlling only blinds or only lights and sockets.
With 10,000 you can do a bit more, but you won’t really reach the level where it becomes fun.
KNX requires the necessary infrastructure, meaning more wiring, larger control cabinets, and so on. The control cabinet alone, fully wired and equipped with basic KNX peripherals (power supply + interface), can easily cost 2,000 to 3,000 (currency not specified).
I wouldn’t necessarily spend extra money on homeway. Just run satellite cable and CAT7 into every room, and that’s sufficient.
