Hello,

We are currently renovating our house, and everything is still in the shell stage. I would like to make my home a bit smarter in terms of control and monitoring. The system should be wireless.

Since there are so many systems available, I am not sure which one would be right for me. I hope you can help and guide me in the right direction.

What I want:

Lighting control, dimming, or use of motion sensors in the hallways, storage room, stairs. Time- and brightness-based control of selected lights.

For example:

Lighting controlled by a brightness sensor so that when the room is too dark and movement is detected, the light turns on; manual switching should also be possible. This should also apply outdoors on the property.

From 10 PM to 7 AM, generally dimmed lighting in selected rooms.

Lighting control via smartphone
Heating control
Shutter/blind control via smartphone
Garage door control via smartphone
Camera surveillance via smartphone
Smart plugs controlled via smartphone

For the lights, I like the Philips Hue system, but I need recessed spotlights that are Zigbee compatible. For heating control and so on, I find the Bosch solution good. What do you recommend for electric shutters/blinds? Through which system can these devices be controlled without having to use 12 different apps?

What should I keep in mind when setting this up?

Best regards and thanks in advance

I use and recommend iobroker. It allows you to implement all your requirements within one solution. You do need to invest some time and should know or be willing to learn JavaScript for the rules, although it is not absolutely necessary since it also offers ‘Blockly.’ I control all my needs very conveniently with iobroker via Telegram (which works like a message). Just take some time to familiarize yourself with iobroker.

There are also other all-in-one providers like Innogy and Homee. FHEM is popular as well, but I cannot provide any details about those solutions.

What exactly speaks against a wired solution? I find fully wireless setups to be problematic, both in terms of reliability in real-world use and regarding the security issues you bring into the house with them.

I use the stuff from Homematic.
It seems like iobroker is just an add-on for it?

I only use it to control my venetian blinds and 3 power outlets. I also have a few Hue and Xiaomi products.

For my needs, it’s completely sufficient, but there are also much more professional options available.

The wired solution involves a significantly higher amount of work. In addition, unfortunately, I do not know the exact installation plan of the existing electrical system, as the house has been standing for 20 years.

I have done some more research and currently believe that the best all-in-one system, which is also not subscription-based or tied to a single provider, is homee combined with the Zigbee Cube and the Brain Cube.

Are there any other suggestions or objections that might speak against this?
