Hello everyone,

I am currently planning my new kitchen with Ikea METOD cabinets and am trying to figure out which METOD cabinet models are best suited for built-in appliances like ovens, microwaves, dishwashers, or refrigerators. It is especially important to me that the cabinet is stable enough to securely hold the appliances and that there is enough storage space as well as suitable cutouts or mounting options.

I have noticed that there are different heights (e.g., 60, 80, 100 cm (24, 31.5, 39.4 inches)) and widths available, but also some special tall cabinets or combination cabinets. I am particularly interested in which cabinets are best for stacking an oven and microwave on top of each other without needing extensive modifications.

What are your experiences or recommendations? Are there specific cabinets or accessories that have proven to work well? Tips on stability, installation, or even handling the electrical rails or ventilation would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance!

I sometimes recommend considering an external panel or an alternative to the METOD system when aiming for a high-end setup.

That’s a very good point. The flexibility of the METOD system is undoubtedly great, but there are limits. Especially with appliances that have special dimensions, such as very deep or tall ovens, you either have to modify the cabinet or look for other accessory options.

For most standard appliances, a 60x60x220 cm (24x24x87 inches) or 60x60x240 cm (24x24x94 inches) tall cabinet, combined with the appropriate installation frames and ventilation solutions, is usually sufficient. When combining an oven and microwave, it is also important to pay attention to the spacing between the appliances so that heat dissipation is not hindered.

One more thing to note: stability can be improved by adding reinforcements, such as metal brackets inside or a plywood back panel. This makes particular sense when installing heavy appliances.

Dan33, if you can provide specific models or dimensions, I’ll be happy to help work out the best installation solution.
