Hello everyone,

I am currently planning my new kitchen with Ikea METOD cabinets and am trying to figure out which METOD cabinet models are best suited for built-in appliances like ovens, microwaves, dishwashers, or refrigerators. It is especially important to me that the cabinet is stable enough to securely hold the appliances and that there is enough storage space as well as suitable cutouts or mounting options.

I have noticed that there are different heights (e.g., 60, 80, 100 cm (24, 31.5, 39.4 inches)) and widths available, but also some special tall cabinets or combination cabinets. I am particularly interested in which cabinets are best for stacking an oven and microwave on top of each other without needing extensive modifications.

What are your experiences or recommendations? Are there specific cabinets or accessories that have proven to work well? Tips on stability, installation, or even handling the electrical rails or ventilation would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance!

Hello Dan33,

a very good and detailed question that requires some experience and technical understanding. Generally, the METOD tall cabinets with a width of 60cm (24 inches) are most suitable for installing built-in appliances like ovens, microwaves, or refrigerators, as they accommodate standardized appliance dimensions. Here are a few important points:

- The standard height of these tall cabinets is usually 80cm (31.5 inches), 80x60x220cm (31.5x24x86.6 inches), or 80x60x240cm (31.5x24x94.5 inches), which is ideal for integrating electrical appliances.
- For the combination of oven and microwave, there are often special combined installation sets designed specifically for these cabinets, including an intermediate unit.
- Make sure the cabinets are made from sturdy material (those with reinforced edges and thicker carcasses are usually more stable).
- The cabinets typically have pre-marked openings or mounting points for installation kits, often on the side panels, which makes sliding in and fixing the appliances easier.
- Don’t forget ventilation: appliances usually require some space on the sides and at the back. The METOD tall cabinets have cutouts at the back, which often need to be adjusted.

Do you already have a specific appliance brand or model in mind? Depending on the appliance depth and ventilation requirements, the choice of cabinet or necessary modifications can vary significantly.

If you like, you can also share the exact dimensions of your appliances, and I can help you find the most suitable METOD cabinet.

Short answer: Tall cabinets and high-temperature appliance cabinets with a width of 60cm (24 inches) are ideal for built-in appliances. Stacking multiple appliances works best with combination units.

As an addition: When installing ovens and microwaves together in a single METOD tall cabinet, I recommend the model with dimensions of 60x60x240 cm (24x24x94 inches) in height. It provides enough space and stability.

Furthermore, it is important to use the appropriate installation frames or mounting kits, which are often sold separately. Without these, the fixtures are often unstable.

Also, ventilation and sufficient access to the connections should be checked before ordering. Be sure to carefully compare the appliance dimensions with those of the cabinet.

I have been using tall cabinets measuring 60cm x 60cm x 220cm (24in x 24in x 87in) for the oven and microwave for years. The setup is straightforward when using the appropriate installation frames. Important: Make sure to include suitable ventilation slots at the top and back.

This question is crucial. Many underestimate the impact of appliance specifications on cabinet selection.

I also think that while IKEA’s METOD system offers many options, it often provides only standard solutions for oven and microwave combinations. The flexibility is frequently limited by the depth and height, which do not always match modern appliances.

Sometimes I recommend considering an external panel or an alternative solution alongside the METOD system if you are aiming for a high-end setup.
