Hello everyone, I have a specific question about repairing KALLAX shelves, as I recently had an accident and one of the side panels broke. My question is: which glue would you consider the best option for repairing KALLAX, especially when it comes to bonding the particleboard with the outer laminate?

It’s important to me that the repair is not only strong but also as durable as possible, since the shelf has to hold several kilograms (pounds). I’ve heard about wood glue, superglue, and special construction adhesives. I’m also interested if you know any tricks to improve the glue’s bonding strength, such as surface preparation or post-treatment.

Thanks in advance for your opinions and experiences!

For repairs like this, I usually use clear wood glue combined with light sanding beforehand. It holds surprisingly well if the glued surfaces are tightly clamped.

However, if it needs to be very strong, I recommend using epoxy adhesive.

Thank you all for the helpful responses! To summarize: most recommend sanding the melamine coating and then using construction adhesive or a two-component epoxy adhesive, as wood glue tends to bond less effectively in this case.

I have one more question for the experienced craftsmen here: Is a two-component epoxy adhesive advisable if the glued joint might need to be taken apart later? Or is there a risk that the shelf itself might break instead of the adhesive joint?

Also, I'm curious about how critical the pressing time really is – 12 hours versus 24 hours is quite a difference.

Thanks again for your tips; they are very helpful!
