Hello everyone,

I am planning to make my Ikea Besta system more mobile and flexible by adding casters. I’m wondering which casters are best suited to make the Besta system both stable and easy to move. It is important to me that the cabinet is not only easy to slide but can also support a certain load and does not leave marks on the floor.

I’m also interested in whether there are specific caster models that work better for different Besta sizes (for example, 120x40 cm (47x16 inches) or 180x40 cm (71x16 inches)) and if there are any important differences to consider between fixed and swivel casters.

If anyone has practical experience or can recommend certain types of casters that are especially durable or gentle on floors, I would appreciate any tips or feedback.

So, which casters are ideal for flexibly moving Ikea Besta units without sacrificing stability and functionality?

Thanks in advance for your help!

In addition, the mounting plate of the casters should be at least 6x6 cm (2.4x2.4 inches) to ensure secure attachment.

Many people underestimate this exactly. Often, casters with mounting plates that are too small pose a safety risk, as the furniture can warp over time or the screws may loosen.

Regarding your question, Tankirsten (from post 3): If you move your Besta regularly (e.g., for cleaning), I would definitely recommend ball-bearing swivel casters with brakes. For occasional moving, somewhat cheaper casters will do, but they should still be made of PU.

For floor protection, using spacers or a thin protective mat under the casters is an additional recommendation if you have very sensitive floors.

In general: focus on quality and caster features that suit your usage habits.
