ᐅ What are good plants for a narrow bed alongside a garage?

Hello everyone!
We have a 30cm (12 inch) narrow planting strip—yes, really that narrow—along the side of our neighbors’ garage (9m (30 ft) long). This strip exists because of an installed irrigation system.

We would like to plant it! Preferably with nice ground covers that remain narrow or with taller plants. However, these should only grow wider than about 0.3m (12 inches) after that point, so our robot mower can pass underneath without obstruction. It would also be great if they don’t grow very deep.

Do you have any specific suggestions for what we could plant there?

No, no lawn at all there... It looks roughly like this. Once established, it requires hardly any maintenance... well, now there is already a lawn..

Sorry, but that definitely does not suit our taste.

Why didn’t you just include the strip when sowing?

Because I don't want my irrigation system installed within the lawn area, but outside of it. In case I need to make any changes later on, etc.

True, otherwise something alive might wander in.
(I had to say that, you did kick again back then )

Have you looked at pampas grass yet?
I think it fits well with a "clean" garden.

I think it suits a “clean” garden style as well.

You seem to have a good memory!

We even planted pampas grass in front of the patio. But seeing how big and thick (round) it has become, I’m pretty sure we won’t enjoy that flowerbed for long ;-(

Plant ground covers like stonecrop there. It blooms a long time with nice yellow flowers and is very low-maintenance. I would avoid periwinkle, as it tends to spread aggressively. Otherwise, use moss phlox. They also tolerate partial shade. In the background, add a clematis for vertical growth.
