Hello everyone, I’m planning to convert an Ikea Besta unit into a wine rack and I’m looking for advice on what to consider. I’m especially interested in the following points: How can I adjust the compartments to store bottles securely and stably? Are there specific dimensions I should keep in mind to fit standard wine bottles? I’m also wondering if the thickness and load capacity of the shelves are sufficient or if I need to reinforce them. What have you taken into account regarding moisture, ventilation, and stability? Are there any recommendations or experience with accessories or custom inserts that work well? I want the rack to look as professional as possible and be as durable as it can. Thanks in advance for your tips and experiences!

I tried this, and what really helped a lot was using small wooden wedges as bottle holders, customized to your measurements. This way the bottles don’t tip over, and it looks very professional!Top tip! Wooden wedges or even custom-made support strips make the whole setup much more flexible and look great too.
I also have a styling idea: instead of removing the entire shelf compartments, you can add decorative grids to individual sections, for example with a metal finish – this gives the wine rack a really cool industrial loft look!
And lastly: it only stays cool if you keep safety in mind, so double-check that everything is securely fastened. Have fun building – it’s going to be awesome! 😎🍷
