Hello,
I probably have a simple question for the community. I plan to install a video doorbell system in our new build. There should be one monitor on the ground floor and one on the upper floor. The purpose is simply to see who is at the door and decide whether to open it or pretend no one is home.
I have already started researching online to see how this can be done as a DIY project because I think having an electrician do it might be too expensive. The contract includes a basic doorbell system with a chime.
What I’m interested in is what exactly I should tell the company regarding which cables to install, where, and how, so I can handle the rest myself.
A door-opening function is not absolutely necessary, since if I want to speak to someone or open the door, I can just go to the entrance. The main entrance door has fingerprint access for the family.
Maybe some of you can also recommend systems.
Thank you very much for your time and help.

That depends on the system. Generally, the cameras can send images to an email address. The email could be displayed directly, or there is a binary input on the display that turns on the lighting when the doorbell is pressed or motion is detected, or it can be controlled via the home server or other logic controllers. There are many different options.
